Do you enjoy decorating for the holidays? I’ve definitely started to enjoy it so much more now that the kids love to see all of the decorations, and most recently decorating for Easter has been no different. My favorite way to decorate at this point is to get them as involved as they can! This means making sure that the majority of the decorations are kid-proof, but at this point I don’t even get anything out that is breakable.
Where to shop for inexpensive toddler proof decorations
One thing I love to do for all of the holidays is take the girls to Target and wander the Dollar Spot. So many good “treasures” to be had. We find many kid proof decorations here. While Target is my favorite spot to go with the kids, there are many other great places to find inexpensive, kid friendly holiday decorations. Some stores that should be on your list are Michaels, JoAnn Fabric, Old Time Pottery, Hobby Lobby, Five Below, Walmart, Current and the Dollar Tree.
What to decorate with
Decorative Clings for our big sliders have become a favorite decoration. I tried to get them for Christmas in 2016 but Stella would cry when I tried to put them on the window. Somehow this year they became fun! They’re also great for Sadie as she loves looking at them and standing at the windows to try to reach for them.

We have a good sized double window in the kitchen right next to the girls chairs. Last Valentine’s Day I found a cute Heart banner on Jane.com to hang from these windows. This became a fun way to decorate for each holiday. The Dollar Spot at Target usually has some adorable banners.
We finally have a spot in our entry where we have the girls school pictures. There is one of each of them and then a photo of them together. Next year they will go to a different school (sob!) so the pictures together is short lived but I still love it. This has become a great spot to hang little holiday themed items on the wall. So far my lucky spots for finding perfect decorations have been the Target Dollar Spot (shocker I know), JoAnn Fabric and Walmart.
Our decorating outside has become something that is really fun, especially for Stella. I still keep it very simple, but enough that she really loves to see it and help. One of the first things Stella really started to pay attention to and like is having a garden flag. This was never something I’ve ever had before, but my sister had one so we got one too. This was a fun and easy addition for the holidays and just every day. When we didn’t have one up for a while Stella kept telling me it was broken! You can find these so many places, but my more frequent purchase locations has been either JoAnn Fabric or Amazon.
We also like to find a variety of things to stick in the ground or in the flower pot near the door. Stella likes to help put them in, although I usually have to help her stick it in far enough so that it will stay in. Our current items are little character pinwheels from Old Time Pottery and a little decoration from Five Below.
Starting with Christmas, Stella has also insisted that we have a wreath for our door. Target has had some really cute felt ones that colorful and perfect for kids. This has been a perfect final touch to our holiday decorations.
I’ve always enjoyed decorating for each holiday, but decorating with kids makes it so much better. What do you do to get your kids involved in decorating for the holidays?
