I have a huge virtual To Read list. If you’ve read my Goodreads blog post you may have friended me on Goodreads and seen how obscenely long that list is. It’s so easy to find suggestions everywhere and just keep adding to this list! I also have books all over my house that I would like to read, and even re-read. I’ve pulled some into my current “To Read Pile”, or what I call my books “on deck”.
Are you like me and you can’t resist buying another book even though you know you really don’t need one? It’s so hard! So here’s my current list, a few of which I’ve already started and why they are on this shorter list.
Melissia’s On Deck Books
First, We Are Water: A Novel (P.S.) by Wally Lamb. I started reading this a little while ago and according to Goodreads it’s been on my list since 2013, whoa! At the start of the year I decided I wanted to read more physical books, rather than focusing on audiobooks. This one had been on my bookshelf for a while. I’ve read a few by Wally Lamb before and have heard good things about his books in general so quickly floated this to the top of my pile.
Next up is Red Clocks: A Novel by Leni Zumas, my January book from the Book of the Month Club. You get to chooose a book from a selection they provide, and this book said it was similar to The Handmaid’s Tale, so I picked it! I joined The Book Of The Month Club in January, I’m a sucker for those subscription boxes and a book box? Come on, I had to do it. If you want to check it out yourself, here’s my referral link. Please note if you join using my referral link, I will receive a book for free! So, thank you
The next one in my towering pile is An American Marriage: A Novel by Tayari Jones, which is my February Book of the Month and also one of Oprah’s Book Selections!
Then it is Belong to Me: A Novel by Marisa de los Santos, which has been on my Goodreads shelf for quite a while, and I’ve physically owned for quite a while too! It was given to me through a Book Club exchange when sharing books we love. I love getting recommendations from my friends!
The next two books in my pile are books that were for one of my other book clubs, but I never got to them, shame on me! I still want to read them though so I’ve added The Girls: A Novel by Emma Cline and Swear on This Life: A Novel by Renee Carlino to this short pile.
The last five books in my towering pile are all chosen because of where they take place, in Iowa. I do love my state of Iowa and love a good theme for reading and thought I would start there! Let’s go on a road trip and see where else I can go. Did you know you can search by setting on Goodreads? This helped me find just which Iowa books I wanted to choose, although there are a few more I would have added if I hadn’t felt my pile was getting a little big. Midnight Assassin: A Murder in America’s Heartland (Bur Oak Book) by Patricia L. Bryan, Thomas Wolf – a book I chose because it is set in Iowa. You’ll see this theme in the next few books as well! Did you know you can search by setting on Goodreads? So to round out my list I have What’s Eating Gilbert Grape by Peter Hedges, The Life and Times of the Thunderbolt Kid: A Memoir by Bill Bryson, Dewey: The Small-Town Library Cat Who Touched the World by Vicki Myron.
What’s on your to read list? Is your to read list long like mine, or if you keep it tidier and shorter, what’s your secret? Which of my books will you be adding to yours?
Please re-pin this post of share it on Facebook if you think it could help someone else!
