The Official Summary (from Netgalley)
‘Hello? Police? My husband and our children… they’re gone.’
When Mel arrives at the holiday cottage in the Lake District, she expects to find the heating on and her husband Luke and the two children waiting for her. Maybe a bottle of wine open…
Instead, there is just a note on the side, saying they’ve gone out for a walk.
But they aren’t back several hours later, and Mel knows something is wrong. Really wrong. When a search doesn’t find them, she has to confess to the police that her marriage isn’t all that it seems.
Even if that risks her own secrets being revealed…
An absolutely incredible, page-turning psychological thriller with a twist you won’t see coming, for fans of Gone Girl, Behind Closed Doors and Ruth Ware.
My Review
I received this book as an advanced review copy (ARC) from Netgalley. Have you heard of it? Netgalley is like heaven to me. It’s a place for reviewers like me, where I can get digital copies of books before they’re released. Love You Gone was the first of these books that I finished and I was so lucky that it was such a good read!
If you’re looking for a book that is a thriller, suspenseful and grabs you pretty quickly you have to read this book! I was definitely conflicted, confused and torn throughout this book. I’m not one who tried to figure out the twists as I read books as I like to just let things play. Even if you are one of those, you may suspect a few things but I think there will be a few surprises. Some are believable surprises and a few might be a bit unbelievable. There were definitely some frustrating characters and events, but of course that’s because I’m outside looking in and I know when they’re being stupid! I will also say I didn’t really have any characters that I loved, except maybe the kids. It’s hard not to like the kids. One thing I would change is to understand better why Ted is such an angry person, he certainly is one of the least likable characters. At the end of the story I definitely still have some questions, that I can’t share here without giving spoilers and I certainly don’t want to do that!
Rona Halsall has written one other book and based on how much I enjoyed this book I’ve just added her other book to my TBR pile.
If you like this book I recommend…
Thriller books have been a genre I’ve enjoyed lately so finding recommendations to give isn’t difficult!
Have you read this book already? What did you think? Do you have any other thrillers to recommend?
